Sorbus intermedia is known as Swedish Whitebeam found in Scandinavia and northeast Europe. It is a medium sized deciduous tree growing to about twenty meters. It is widely grown in northern Europe as an ornamental as it tolerates urban street conditions, so is commonly used as avenues and in parks.
Funky Facts File: Sorbus intermedia is a triple hybrid between Sorbus aucuparia, Sorbus torminalis and either Sorbus aria or one of its close relatives. It is closely related to another hybris the Finnish Whitebeam Sorbus hybrida. As it breeds true it is an artificial but nevertheless true species.
